+SERRATUS ANTERIOR : REDUX+ by jinx-star +SERRATUS ANTERIOR : REDUX+ by jinx-star
A redux of the previous study on Serratus Anterior. It was hastily drawn up that time and I have been wanting to do a neater version since then.

I have Burne Hogarth's book on Dynamic Anatomy for years. Only recently I started reading in details. :P To correctly place the Serratus Anterior, imagine a line starting at the pit of the neck, 45 degree down, past the nipple and there you have it.

The maximum number of Serratus slots a human can have is six but that 6th slot is only visible when the arms are raised. In drawing, it makes sense to stick to 5 slots or less. In reality, this particular muscle group are hard to build and most guys have to work really hard (and must be very lean) to have all 5 of their Serratus Anterior show up.

All hail Brune Hogarth. I have a bunch of his books. ^^; My personal favorite is actually the dynamic wrinkles one.

So there really are five of those, huh? But normally only three and maybe four show. Hmm. I didn't know that. I did know about the nipple thing though. :) Not that you care. I'll shut up now. ^^;

Deltoid too big/pushed forward? Both Loomis (here) and Peck (here) have the shoulders pulled back a lot more at resting position. Seems like there'd be more distortion in the pectorals if the shoulders were this far forward?

Good emphasis on how it's attached between the upper abs and latissimus dorsi. But I'm curious to know, as a baseline: How many layers of the serratus anterior is recommended?

I can't recommend as it really dependd on individual preferences. Some like them, some don't. Real life, there are also men with defined abs while their serratus anterior are not as clearly shaped.

Personally when comes to drawing, the most I would show is 3 in relaxed poses.
